Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy and Short Upper Lip
Myofunctional Therapy for a short upper lip (the distance between the nose and the pink part of the lip) is a big part of orofacial myofunctional therapy. This is usually a result of airway obstruction caused by large tonsils and/or adenoids, large turbinates, allergies, low muscle tone or just habit.
Lip licking often happens just because the lips are open and become dry.
However, an open mouth posture can help to create a malocclusion (teeth that do not fit) because teeth are seeking a ‘stopping point’.
It is important that the lips fit together to guide the teeth and support them for a lifetime.
Lip licking is usually an easily-solved issue with myofunctional therapy.
